Course Description :

This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.

 

Building relates to construction and Site Management is about managing the factors around construction, such as the deployment of crews with specialised skills (including builders), product compliance, deployment of contract specialised skills, weather and site location.

Course Structure:

In order to achieve qualification CPC40120 - Certificate IV in Building and Construction, student must complete following 19 unit of competencies.

  • 11 core units, plus

  • 8 elective units

Training and Assessment (700 hours)

The volume of learning for the qualification is 700 hours. This comprises of:

  • Learning Hours- 336 hours (248 hours of theory training and 88 hours of practical training)

  • Assessment Hours- 304 hours (212 hours of theory assessment and 92 hours of practical assessment)

  • Independent Study, work on assignment & research- 60 hours

This will be delivered over 44 weeks of course duration including 32 weeks delivery plus 12 weeks holidays. Students are required to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.

Assessment Methods

All assessments of units of competency will be conducted according to the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification. Assessment methods include Practical demonstrations, Projects, Knowledge Tests etc.

Pathways from the qualification

After successfully achieving this qualification, candidates may undertake CPC50220 - Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).
